Facebook iconGetting your business the exposure it needs, the key is to stay current on the trends of online marketing. One of the best places to find others that have experience in your niche is on Facebook. There are plenty of “friends” to be made that will help your business. The various groups on Facebook focus on the many facets of owning a business and even those looking to start one.

Of course you will need to get an account. These are free to anyone and they are easy to use. Go to www.facebook.com and register for a new account. You may already have one but if you want to keep family and friends separated from your business then I would recommend a separate for your business. You may want to give it the name of your business. Another alternative is to make a “Page” that you can update for your business and get your business “friends” to become a fan.

Being self employed with an internet based business you will always want to learn new things when it comes to online marketing. Now you can start fining new “friends” that will teach you new things about this particular aspect. Find those online marketing coaches, gurus and those willing to share their experiences. Find groups that focus on tips and tricks of online marketing. Read about the group and if the group interests you then join the group. Send a friend request to the administrator and also some of the members. Add a message to the friend request to introduce yourself and why you would like to become friends with them. After joining the group keep going back and exchange ideas with others in the group. Get involved.

Now find other groups and friends that focus on people that work from home, self employed, work at home moms and dads. The possibilities are endless. Find the groups that are going to want to interact with and exchange ideas. Even though some of these groups are not focusing on just online marketing, they may discuss other ways to organize yourself at home or even build your confidence building your business offline. Some may even give pointers to help stay on top of the household chores and exchange a good recipe for the slow cooker. These are the groups that may benefit you in the long run and help to motivate you.

The next set of groups you will want to find are those that will be interested in what you have to offer. Facebook has plenty of groups that are looking for you. Your business are a target customer base and these are the groups that you want to join also. If you are selling health products, there are groups that focus on being healthy. Join to these groups and start building a report with the members. Sharing your experience will get others to open up to you and eventually you will be able to send them your link or they will go back to your profile to learn more about you and this is where you will have a link to your website and products.

Other Facebook users have formed groups that just allow others to advertise businesses. The key to online marketing to to get people exposed to your website or affiliate link. These type of groups could be thought of as classified ads. Groups links are always being rotated in the sidelines of all Facebook pages and chances are someone not looking for a particular group will see these links and find you. Becoming friends with other members of these groups will also allow an opportunity for referrals to those you have not reached or even other groups that you may be interested in joining.

Facebook has become a necessary tool to have when it come to online marketing. Joining different groups and getting involved with them will only benefit you and your business. There are idea exchanges and “friends” that will fit you and help you achieve your goals. Continuously add new friends that will help you grow.

What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is a way to get information about your product or business straight into a potential customers Inbox. There are different ways to use this technique to connect with customers or potential customers. Most importantly the customers have given their permission to receive these emails and is willing to read them and possibly bring them back for more.

Many offline, traditional business, started a trend by asking their customers, or anyone that came into their store, to sign up to be on their mailing lists. This is a good advertising tool and for getting customers to get back into their store. These businesses would send out coupons or announcements for upcoming events. If any of these businesses have come online then they have used email instead of the traditional post man to deliver their correspondence to their customers. Some still do both methods of communicating with customers.

Now that this concept has taken off, the use of email marketing has become an ever changing concept for the business owner and even the customer. Many business that mainly make their money offline have really used this mass mailing to their advantage. With setting up a website online, they have also included an area for a visitor to fill out a form to receive weekly or monthly newsletters. Included in these newsletters is information about their products and even different uses for the items. These could be anywhere from craft ideas, recipes or weekend projects. The possibilities are endless. With the option to pay for something online the customer could just order things right from home and may never have to visit the store. Though coming into the store would be ideal for these business, they already have a list and idea of what they want to buy. Without the idea emailed to them, the customer may have never went back to store.

Businesses can now be completely run online and keep their customers informed with email marketing. Again, these emails are used to inform the reader about the company and get them to visit their website. Using this tool in the same way an offline business does, its main function is to bring people back with the option to buy more. With free advertisement such as referral, or word of mouth, a customer can easily forward the email to a friend, which basically takes 5 seconds or a minimum of four clicks of the mouse and thus, increasing traffic to their website. Now this mew visitor may fill out a form to be included on the mailing list.

An online entrepreneur may see the potential that this advertising has and use it to help establish and grow the reputation of new business. With other tools to use online, a starter business could just be built on the foundation of getting people to be interested in getting information. Setting up an email marketing campaign and releasing newsletters to those that are signed up to receive them, the customers still remain interested and informed. This will them allow a business owner to build a bond with customers and keep them in the loop.

Email marketing could also be used to help customers with their own progress. Such step by step help or encouragement is a tool to keep current members of clubs or businesses to stay with a business. Any business that uses memberships as a main part of their profit should be using this technique. Again this builds trust with customers and can only lead to future sales.

A tool such as this has a vast amount of uses. Any business person could see the potential that this has and should use it to its fullest advantage. Though to over use it would be detrimental and should be utilized wisely.

Developing a Marketing Plan

Running a business on line is not an easy task, though with a plan anything is possible. The key to on line success is developing a marketing plan and to have the determination to follow it through consistently. To start on a path there needs to plan with direction and an ultimate goal. The direction of this path will contain certain tasks that should be completed on a regular basis.

Developing a marketing plan is not going to be straight forward advertising of a product or company. The purpose is to set up a strategy to get a company, name, or product out in front of as many people as possible. There are many different ways to accomplish this on line and most can be taken advantage of so easily and with in a budget.

All successful businesses rely on their reputation. Some have become household names over many years of being in business and with the internet and instant communication with everyone across the planet, a reputation can be be established with social networking. Various forums and chat rooms along with Facebook, My Space and Twitter can help build contacts, leads and resources for any business. The key is to become an active participant with these tools to start developing a presence and a reputation.

The next thing about developing a marketing plan is to know what people want. Everyone is looking for information. It is in good business practice to give people what they want. There are many ways to get information out to the masses and these strategies can be taken advantage cheaply if not free.

Get familiar with how to get information on the web. Websites, blogs, and articles are all channels to take advantage of when developing a marketing plan. Websites are basically home for all the information about a company. They can be simple five pages of a direct focus or can be complex warehouses of information, products and members only areas. Blogs are popular free ways to get information out to people. These are similar to writing a journal or diary but are posted publicly for all to read and even comment on the posts. Article writing is also a popular way to give the public what they want. Write about a product, company or give tips or instructions. The possibilities are endless and there are many sites that take this information and post it out onto the internet.

The most important secret when developing a marketing plan is to have everything refer to everything else. Have links in the articles that lead to profile pages that contain a reference to a blog or website and vice versa. The social networking sites should also contain information on any sites, blogs or article pages. These networking sites can be used for updates each time information is published and ready for viewing by the contacts that are being established on a consistent basis.
